At Agroscope, situated in Grangeneuve, Switzerland,
14 cows have been fitted with portholes in their sides. It cuts through their left flank
,permitting access to the inside of the ruminants' belly.
This method makes it possible to test a more balanced pasture for the animals...
Com: John mehne : Disgusting, yes. Brilliant, yes. Malicious to bovines, no.
We make a painless, sterile ostomy port for colon cancer patients and the world cheers, we make a painless,
sterile ostomy port to study how to best provide for a cow's dietary needs and vegans lose their damn minds...
Com: John mehne : I am opposed to many things in agriculture.
Things like unregulated fertiliser runoff (which can lead to massive algal blooms and die offs, causing water hypoxia), excessive use of antibiotics and antiviral
(which can create more resillient cross-species diseases), and liberal use of carcinogenic types of pesticides (for obvious reasons).
This, however, I believe is an incredible practice. Flora transplants, digestion study, artificial "burping", the list goes on.
Because we conduct them like regular colostomies and such they are pain free after the intallation (which I might add we do under sedation) and completely sanitary as long as the owner takes basic sanitation precautions.
Pretty sure letting a cow die from an intestinal block or bloat is way more cruel than intalling a hole in get side.
