Meiringen Air Base is important for the Swiss Air Force. It is one of the three remaining jet airfields in Switzerland after 2016 with the elimination of the Sion jet airfield, along with Payerne and Emmen. It is also the only airfield where the aircraft cavern is still in use during ongoing operations. The arrestor cable systems for F/A-18s and F-5s at both ends of the runway can be retracted flush into the runway so that they do not pose an obstacle to small aircraft.
very nice! I was fortunate enough to fly with the Swiss Hornets some time ago. We flew out of Dubendorf but did an IMC recovery into Meiringen with the viz less than one mile. The approach between the mountains and into cloud was not something I will ever forget!
Wonderful and very detailed. When landing gears retract, wheels stop turning - I have never before seen/notified that on a video! Interesting air base, too. Public roads crossing runway and a taxiway.
That was outstanding, sometimes they fly over my village (AG near the Jura), but not seen any for a couple of months. One day I will pop down for some spotting. Your camera work, and the panning, looks like some sort of auto locking pan! Simply amazing!
Absolutely magnificent! The grand landscape in the background adds SO much to the ever-present velvety smoothness of your camera tracking. And I never thought about the Swiss even having an air force.
