Com : Bero : But, as a fencing contractor I call it a day on a 24" to 30" hole if I am hand digging and if the ground is really really hard. If it is that hard it is unlikely to fail or "wobble" but ideally you need to go at least two feet and three feet if you can. Rent a rock breaker for like 60 bucks a day and do it much deeper if you can.
