They must have a wack of topsoil there! Shallow field work tillage makes seeds germinate when light rains come... The newest chemicals on the market redilly control most annual weeds in crop and some work as a residual for flushes after spraying!!
Burying top soil and bringing up sand. DUMB!!!!! These fields are going to be dependent on heavy synthetic fertilizers for generations now
This is how you get a dust bowl. Soon as the sun hits that rich soil it kills all the good bacteria and bleaches out all the nutrients. A light tilling or just a disk is more effective and much less damaging to the soil.
Interesting. Most of these appear to be plowing muck or clay down into sand for better drainage. I have the opposite condition, but I don't think there's a big enough plow to bring the clay up to the surface on my place.
Everyone in the comment section relax, they will put fertilizer as well, maybe manure etc and they will simply aerate the soil and make it better.
