Foundation and installation
Depending on the size and type of turbine system, this may require heavy machinery such as excavators and cranes. It is generally necessary to wait at least 2 weeks after the foundation is laid for the concrete base to harden. If a building-mounted system is installed, the roof of your property may need to be reinforced to support the weight of the turbine.
Electric cables
An electrical engineer or electrician will connect the wind turbines DC output to the control box and then to the inverter. The AC output of the inverter will be connected to your property's electricity supply and power grid. Other electrical components such as insulators are installed for safety and an Ofgem approved production meter is placed behind the inverter.
Connection to the electricity grid
To connect the wind turbine system to the grid, your installer will contact your local Area Network Operator (DNO).
Final checks
Your installer must perform the final electrical safety and performance checks and provide you with the necessary documentation (manuals, warranties, maintenance information) before commissioning the system.
MCS registration
The installer must also enroll your turbine system in the Micro Production Certification Scheme, which will provide you with the certificate required to set up Tariff Determination and apply for export payments.
