U.S. Sailors fire 25mm rounds from the Mk 38 Mod 1 Automatic Machine Gun System during a live fire gunnery exercise. The Mk 38 is the naval version of the M242 system. The Mk 38 consists of the M242 chain gun and the Mk 88 Mod 0 machine gun mount. It provides ships with defensive and offensive gunfire capability for the engagement of a variety of surface targets such as patrol boats, floating mines, and various shore-based targets. The standard rate of fire is up to 200 rounds per minute. The weapon has an effective range of 3,000 metres (9,800 ft), depending on the type of ammunition used.
that's an awesome experience to be able to have in life. And some voices sounded so young, really awesome experience for young adults. Very cool and I'd love to have been enlisted.
In the 60’s I fired thousands of rounds from a 50, an M14, a recoilless rifle, an 81 mm mortar and a bunch of other army weapons. We never had any hearing protection. Today the ringing in my ears is driving me crazy!
My Dad Served in RCN during WWII They patrolled the west coast from Vancouver BC to Alaska looking for subs etc. Their Vessel was a converted wooden hulled Jap fishing boat The Canadian Government confiscated from their fishing fleet and put them in internment . all they had was a mounted gun on the deck and a strip louis machine gun and a rifle or two ... He was a sailer in the Fishermans reserve which was commonly called The Canadian Gum Boot Navy ....He never seen action but because they were in a theatre of war he did receive an over seas pension and was well cared for by the DVA ... He told me they did get a once a day rum ration which the men would save up and then go on a bit of a drunk ....till they wizened up and put a halt to that
