With just a few hours of work remaining on the contract, the CAT 374DL elevated excavator sunk into a unknown soft area of seabed which collapsed as the digger passed over it and got stuck,

then the tide came in.

The soft area was probably caused by large concrete coastal defences being removed from the beach after WW2..No matter what line of work you're in,
