A container ship is a cargo ship designed to carry boxes called containers in international standards.
It is mostly preferred in international commercial freight transportation as it reduces costs compared to other transportation vehicles.
It has become one of the symbols of international trade due to its widespread use. According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development 2019 data, container ship capacity in the world is 265,668,000 tons.
Maersk Triple E class container ships can pass through the Suez Canal with a length of 400 m, a width of 59 m, a draft of 14.5 m and a carrying capacity of 18,270 TEU.
With a width of 43 m, ships such as the COSCO Guangzhou are too wide to pass through the old Panama Canal, but they can easily pass through the new expanded canal.
Providence Bay class ships are at the upper limit of Panamamax class ships with a length of 292.15 m, a width of 32.2 m and a depth of 13.3 m.[4] (photo: 4,224 TEU MV in one of the Panama Canal pools in Providence Bay)
Ships below 3000 TEU are called feeders. Some ships are equipped with cargo cranes (photo: 384 TEU TransAtlantic moored)
