Com: Micheal: Here is why no welder talks about it or uses it:
1. too difficult to cut with simple machinery, so you need too much time for a joint
2.structural integrity, the reason both ends are cut to 45° if you want to reach 90° is that the forces are equally distributed throughout your workpiece
3. welding stress, since you weld on one side more than the other, the stress introduced due to the heat will deform your workpiece in an asymetrical way, which is what you dont want
Com: Tonie : This was refreshing after viewing several YouTubes about septic tanks. I'm still not sure how I got here but am glad I did. It just goes to show that at 80, I still have a lot to learn. Uniqueness is appealing and though there are faster ways to do a right angle, this has a certain appeal. Thanks!
Com: Paisia: Ohhhh man. I just came across this and is gonna help me tremendously to make a truck bed extender. I know they sell them but this seems like a way stronger weld. Able to hold more weight with less chance of failure.
