In 2011, Danpower built a biogas plant for the production of bio natural gas at the Lichtensee site.
In addition to the conventional use of biogas in a combined heat and power plant to generate renewable electricity and heat, a so-called biogas processing plant was installed here for the first time in the company.
The biogas produced is thus processed to natural gas quality and fed into the supply network of the regional gas network operator.
This means that 700 Nm3 of green bio natural gas are produced every hour. The gas is used in combined heat and power plants that were installed at Danpower's heat supply systems.
The electricity generated at the site is fed into the regional supply network, and the heat is used for self-sufficiency.
With the operation of the plant, around 14,000 t of carbon dioxide are avoided annually.
The biogas plant processes only renewable raw materials in the form of maize, GPS and Sudan grass silage and small amounts of grain.
The freshly harvested ingredients are stored and conserved at the site of the biogas plant in the mobile silo facility with a storage capacity of approx. 60,000 t.
The fermentation residues produced after the process, around 45,000 t per year, are separated into a solid and liquid fraction and given to surrounding farms as high-quality fertiliser.
