B1 trivia: Did you know that every engine installed on the B1's when first delivered failed due to FOD? The engine nacelles are assembled with riv-nuts and the people who built them were very careless with the nut that breaks off each one when being installed resulting in the nacelles having thousands of them rattling around and these got into the engines. Not good. I worked with an engineer who did computer modelling of the nacelles and built a rig that would tilt and turn them in all axis so the nuts floating around would work their way out. He said they sounded like a paint can full of rocks when first being spun on the machine but as the nuts came out became quieter and eventually all of them made the plinko trip out...and since then the engines have been fine. Cool story.
Man, this was awesome,so much info. it's easy to see why the military budget is not chump change, the amount of equipment, training, testing. Hey, no argument from me about it. Growing up,i was always into cars while my brother who was in the Army, was into aviation ( a chopper lunatic ). As we are both up there in age, we have crossed boundaries and now like what the other liked when we were younger ( texts me about a NASCAR, F1, or Indy car race is on). Man, i would love to go up in an F-15 or be a back seat pilot in a B-1. Awesome!
