This is a McConnel 10 DCR Mobile sawbench,
made by F.W. McConnel of Ludlow, UK.
Popular in the post
war years with both country estates and also with mining companies for sawing pitwood,
it is powered by a 10hp Petter AVA2 twin cylinder diesel engine and is suitable for both cross cutting and ripping.
Blade diameter is 30" (760mm).
Quicker and more efficient than using a chainsaw for firewood production,
they regularly appear on Ebay as they no longer comply with woodworking machinery,
legislation primarily because of the excessive time they take to stop.
The fuel tank is 1 1/2 gallons (just under 7 litres)
and despite best efforts I have never had to top it up during any one day's work.
