In today's world, agriculture is used for two different main purposes. The first of these is the group consisting of people who produce only to feed their families, and the second is the group consisting of people and institutions engaged in agriculture for commercial purposes.[20] In industrial agriculture, since the purpose is trade, the money area is wide and the possibilities such as fertilization, seeding, maintenance and irrigation are wide. Likewise, there are large agricultural areas in industrial agriculture. In the 20th century, developments in agricultural chemistry, in particular, increased production and decreased the rate of manpower. However, this causes both unhealthy food production and unemployment.[21]
Although pesticides used against insects in agriculture prevent the damage of these insects to a large extent, these pesticides disrupt the natural balance and harm the environment. Despite all these damages, vehicles such as tractors used in agriculture increase production and provide food for more people. Especially during the 1900s, when the primitive agricultural tools were replaced by modern agriculture and irrigation units, an accelerated increase was observed in agriculture. According to the National Academy of Engineering in the United States, mechanization in agriculture is one of the 20 revolutions the world has experienced. Again, according to 1999 data, thanks to today's technology, a single farmer feeds more than 130 people.[22]
Thanks to 21st century technology, diversity in agriculture is increasing thanks to gene crossing and a new, much more productive lineage can be produced by combining several productive lines. This is considered as one of the factors underlying the increase in agricultural production.
