The Leopard 2 is a German-made 3rd generation main battle tank.
The tank, which began to be developed in the 1970s, was incorporated into the Bundeswehr in 1979 and was replaced by the Leopard (now Leopard 1) tanks. Various variations are used by the German army. In addition, many EU countries other than England and France also prefer this tank.
The tank has two development processes. Up to the Leopard 2A4 type had a flat turret (→ English, turret.
Also revolving gun - turret), while from the Leopard 2A5 types the inclined turret was replaced. All types are equipped with electronic firing system, laser rangefinder, fully stabilized gun and thermal camera.
It can cross waters of 4 meters deep and thanks to the snorkel leg (→ English schnorchel. Also snorkel), it can stay in the water, overcome 1 meter high walls. It has a 1500 horsepower V12 diesel engine, which allows the tank to speed up to 70 km/h.
