Com: Rusty: Misleading title. This incident happened in Norway (my native country) last summer, and it was a lot of talk of the emergency brake system in the media.
Did it trigger or not? Volvo did read data from the truck to see if the emergency brakes did trigger, but their conclusion from the inquiry was that the system didn't trigger and that it was the truck driver's quick reaction that stopped the truck and saved the kids' life.
Com: Deborah: Thank GOD for this lovely & alert driver & his excellent emergency brake systems in vehicles.
The lesson that lovely kid should learn is not to cross the road behind a bus or big vehicle & to look both ways before crossing the road.
Com:Lars: It was not the truck's emergency braking system that prevented this accident, but quick response from the driver.
The truck had no load at this time. Volvo read the car's data logging system with great interest, but it was the driver's fast brake response.
The little boy was very very lucky this time .. this was too close ..
Com: Knom: Probs to the governments that force Volvo, Mercedes and Co. to build-in these emergency systems.
They didn't want to do that at all by just asking friendly.
