Timber Thinning With a 57ft,10 Tonne Bar. This bar is getting the same results as a double pull with a chain and costing the same. Given The political climate at the moment we will not be able to do this forever
You can see in the video how thick the younger timber is compared to the old trees that were originally there but have died in the droughts. If there are too many trees, then there is no grass, no grass means no animals.
Animals, big and small mostly live on grass/grass seeds. That thing that is spinning on the back of the bulldozer is full of grass seed and is dribbling seed out as it goes.
Timber was naturally thinned out many years ago by bushfires but due to the droughts of this century, not enough grass is available for a decent fire size so doing it with a machine is the next best thing.
In fact in a lot of ways it is better because the pulled over trees break the ground which lets the water down into the ground instead of running off the surface which causes erosion, also it doesn't cook all the little animals like fire does, as well as the fact that a lot of pulled timber will naturally re-grow whereas fire will kill off most.
Remember, what you see happening in the video is very costly for the landholder to do and is the best practice for the land and big/small animals so please applaud them.
