A bucket excavator still seems like the best way to remove a log, dig it all up, and fill the hole.

You could use an escalator that lifts the tree along with the log, but it seems like a very complex solution.
The last two pieces of equipment, the anchor and log puller, are just two jobs for the dam in the entire video. I have to get the roots. Of course you can leave them in some cases, overall a big waste of money.
